Graduation Night ‘09

Graduating Class of ‘09 – 5 Gamma
3 people missing but they’re negligible
When I was a lot younger, I used to think that ONLY ONE class can graduate, simply because “Graduating Class” was used instead of “Graduating Classes”. That’s when I thought that graduating must be something really hard to do.
I dare say..I was partially right. It is hard to leave the people you’ve grown attached to throughout the years of schooling.
Anyway, it was Graduation Night last night. Held at Sheraton Subang (which has been renamed to Grand Dorsett). The moment I arrived, I saw many people in formal attire. Wasn’t used to seeing all of that because I’ve never really attended any occasion this formal before.
Camera equipments for the night:
D40 – Stuck at ISO 1600 [expect some noise], Aperture Priority
SB900 – w/ diffusion dome, gel filter: TN-A2
..and the ever-trusty 18-200mm
I didn’t take more than 200 photos last night because I got a headache and hence, I was lazy to take photos. To get near the wee stage, I’d have to walk through a sea of round tables…and going through all that “Excuse me, pardon me, coming through”…
I shall jump right to the photos and probably slip in a few mini-intros of familiar faces, here and there.
“But all endings are also beginnings. We just don’t know it at the time.” – The Five People You Meet In Heaven
This be Elena Ang. I’ve known her since 2003, when she was my classmate and sat behind me. It all started with this small metal bar which I brought (don’t ask – I’m just weird)
We ended up cutting up coloured erasers into small bits and placing them on the metal bar. We added our own “artificial cheese” (made out of glue with diffused yellow-coloured pencil lead in it) and I named that creation “Chopped Salmon Brains” HAHA.
Up ‘til now, she’s my best friend. Together, we’re a small-and-big combo like Mike and Sulley from Monsters, Inc. Whenever we hear/see something odd, we’d just exchange the did-you-hear/see-that? look. It’s a strange connection but it’s awesome.

Farisha [KISS] Qistina is one of those super-open-minded Malays, like meee
She came to Sri KL back in 2007 and none of us knew much about her. Sooner or later, we learnt that she’s a hardcore gamer (or more like, 75% of her family are hardcore gamers). We also learnt that she’s DAMN good at drawing [more on the sketchy side], has a really nice cursive handwriting, and plays drums and guitar.
She may not be a loud person like most of us, but she has a great sense of humour and her sarcasm is always very entertaining. Not to mention, the funny tales of her father.
![]()
Teh Yee Suh, or should I say..THE Yee Suh smiles a lot, this is for sure. She’s a new student this year, and is an extremely hardworking one. She’s too nice..she consoled me when I felt deep emotional turmoil (yes, it has been the two darkest years of my life)
![]()
Lee Chen Ji and Goh Chai Leng. Chai Leng was my classmate back in Std 1 (1999) while I only knew Chen Ji in Form 2. Chen Ji is a humble dude whereas Chai Leng is not a person to be messed with (seriously, I think she could stab anyone with her killer heels)
![]()
Vanessa Lochnessa Tan can turn any drawing into a perverted one, hahah. Wong Hwee Wen, on the other hand, is super random. These two are bound to make anyone laugh
![]()
Leong Wei Li/Snow White and his “son”, Nagusha Rachagan/Snowball ![]()
Nagusha’s voice stiiiill hasn’t broken yet.
Wei Li can imitate Mr Perumal really well. From “You, take your bag and out from the class” to the infamous “WHERE IS YOUR WAAAARK!”, he sure can do it one.
![]()
Yesss..Reading the menu. He asked for a shot.

I was carried away by something, I’m sure.
![]()
Wei Li, Nagu, Bryan and Xian Ming
Sucelia Han! I can’t help but to think of the Paddle Pop Rainbow ice cream when I look at the colours. Pals since ‘05. She wasn’t really into make-up back then, haha. Now look at how she’s changed
![]()
Nagu, Zenvern, Seng Giap, Wei Li, Faris, Chee Hang and Wei Siong.
![]()
HAHA Farisha looks dead-tired!
![]()
My camera’s too heavy to be used in a situation like this..
![]()
Celine and I. We’re both Wans. This was taken in the toilet, by the way.
![]()
With Chen Ji and Ooi Wei-Jun. Obvious height difference. Wei-Jun used to be in band but left because he went to pursue his librarian dreams (I’ve mentioned this before, I know it)
He sings well too :O ..and those were the days (Form 3) when we used to taunt each other about certain things HAHA. Ahhh, how I liked the Form 3 life.
![]()
Yeoh Seng Giap, Yee Suh and Yau Chee Hang
![]()
Sherlyn Fung and Pn Kamala [Alamak], our Sejarah/History teacher. I remember what she said months ago:
“..and I know that Franz Ferdinand is also the name of a band..” – on the causes of World War I
![]()
FF
It was one of the wow-factors of the night.
![]()
You know what this reminded me of?
![]()
It’s not “Enjoy Your Inn” – It’s “Enjoy Your Dinner”. That was an awesome mini-show but there was too much food after that, man. SEVEN dishes, if I’m not wrong.
![]()
Our class performed “You’ll Be In My Heart” and “I’ll Be Missing You”. It always has to do with someone being somewhere, these song titles.
Kinduvva screw-up because we didn’t tune the bass and guitar together
![]()
Farisha and I had to share one chair. Zzz. Check out the white heels I’m wearing (they belong to my mom, though)
I call them Space Shoes.
![]()
In case you’re wondering, dywt? = Do You Want To? Jajaja, a song by Franz Ferdinand. The initials looked nice to my eyes, so I just had to put it there on my bass.
Also, note the Apple logo sticker.
![]()
Initially,Yew Wei Siong (middle) wanted a picture with Farisha. Then Low Wei Yang (left) crashed.
This is only Stage 1.
![]()
Stage 2 – Four people came to crash the photo.
![]()
Stage 4 – You do the calculation.
![]()
Stage 5 – Faris strikes the “O HAI GUYS!” pose.
![]()
Stage 6 – Then comes Crystal and Nagu.
En voila..Stage 8 is the photo at the beginning of this entry.
![]()
Chee Hang wanted a picture. Pretty random, I must say.
Alpha people ahead..
![]()
Adriz Shazlan and Jason Ong (aiyah, eyes closed!). I’ve known them both since Form 1, and they were originally a Gammarian last year..until they shifted to Alpha. Could’ve been in the same class as them for 5 years straight. I guess these guys should be called the Masters of Perverted Jokes. I can tolerate their jokes..well, most of the time.
![]()
Steffi Lim the Great. We’ve performed together for quite a few times. Am still quite in a shock about last year’s Talentime.
Back in Std 6, we used to “discuss” about the Simpsons after every show. We’d memorize lines too, I think!
![]()
This is Rohit Menon. Have known him since Std 1. He’s still a silly guy. Racist jokes are always based on him, that poor fella.
![]()
Audrey Woo and I. A really entertaining Alpharian, and fun to talk to. Usually, we’d trade class gossips.
![]()
Alan Tee Tong Yong and I
Apparently, my smile is widest here and his face is somewhat come-hithery HAHA..Ok, I won’t be afraid to admit that he is my ”person of interest” for more than 3 years already, heeh. Alan was a classmate back in Form 2 and 3 and he’s a very sincere guy, really. At least that’s what I think
I’ve had a heart-to-heart conversation or two with him and I must say, it’s a rare occurrence. I’m glad to have him as a friend but I do wish that I knew him a lot more throughout the years..
“Very happy la now?” – Elena

With Vicky Chow. I think she’s the fourth person in this entry to have their eyes closed. Aye.
![]()
Off-focus ![]()
Christabel Lim of 5 Beta, a fellow Nikonian! Good to have known her — Otherwise, I’d have to go and take photos on my own during events :/

Featuring Mr Phuah on guitar, far left. He CAN play well! I think most Bio teachers are musically inclined. Mr Roland can play the euphonium. Seen it with my own eyes.

Standing in a line, ready to shake hands with the big shots and etcetera. I only lined up for a short while. To tell ye the truth, I’m not close to any of the teachers; Not even to the extent that I don’t want to part with them..but I do like Cik Umi..
A Little Nightmare Music, please?
School will be closed next week. I don’t know whether I should laugh or cry. School has been really quiet this week anyway.
In the previous post, I mentioned that it’s very unlikely that FF will come to Malaysia for MTV World Stage Live. To make things a little better, IGUDESMAN AND JOO ARE COMING TO MALAYSIA~ (I thank Sean for informing me about this)
Not for MTV World Stage Live lah of course.
Yeaaaah.

Hohoho, and SPM starts on the 18th of November. I don’t care whatever happens man, I am willing to see these guys in action a day before my major exam (As long as I am well prepared…)
Surviving the first week of holidaze
one Conditions were perfect. My mom wasn’t at home. I was inside a room. And what did I do?

I did a cover of Franz Ferdinand’s No You Girls. Covered every instrument but there’s no vocals in this one because..I can’t sing
two I invited Moses over to my house.
..did I ever mention that I have a thing for building IKEA stuff?
three I was claying around. For the sake of my Art project.
And take a look at my right thumb. Le hitchhiker’s thumb
four I think that it’s going to be a great year, in terms of games and such. With the Sims 3 released and the soon-to-be-released Tales of Monkey Island and BEATLES ROCKBAND, I wonder how I am going to set my mind onto SPM..
A 3D John Lennon is pretty good-looking HAHA. Ok lah, I definitely can’t get this one since it’s ROCKBAND. A whole set. No way.
five OVERDUE! I was supposed to write a post about the Band Party we had on the 29th of May, but there was no way I could upload the photos. I finally got the pictures uploaded last night (after a one-week struggle) but it’s in Facebook. Click here if you want to have a look at ‘em.
Long story short, the band party was held at Steffi’s house + neighbourhood. At the very same time, there was a Green House party elsewhere (haha green house effect). I had two choices and obviously, I picked the Band Party, because the band is “the best”
What, I’m proud to be a band geek!
Those who didn’t attend (for whatever reason) have absolutely missed the fun we had lah. The party was a good opportunity to bond with the other banditos, since we had some group activities/games. We played this Amazing Race sort of game, running back and forth from the house to the playground..pretty much like testing our endurance.
One last statement: If we’re talking about team/society parties, I’d rather go for band parties anytime. Right right right?
Happy Valentine’s Day/Happy SAD Day!
Like I mentioned last year, SAD stands for Singles’ Awareness Day ![]()
And as always, I have no Valentine, haha..but I have feelings for the same person for nearly three years now. Heh.
Regarding the following photos,
I took ‘em, cropped ‘em, and changed the colour temperature. No resizing done.

Looks like the bird on the left does not want to be kissed.
Middle Schools Band Festival ‘09
Yesterday, some of us school band members participated in the Middle Schools Band Festival ‘09 at The International School of Kuala Lumpur. It was my last time, along with the other Form Fives
The last time the band members of Sri KL participated in this was back in 2007. There’s a post on it right here. Didn’t attend last year’s because nobody in our school received the sheet music. You can’t go for the band festival without sheet music, ya know…
Just so you know, this Band Festival thingo is basically like a free workshop. We are divided into the junior and advanced group. While the advanced group practice in some classrooms under an instructor, the junior group will remain in the auditorium and they will practice there. We switch locations after our break(s). After hours of practice, we perform!
This year we have a new addition though. Besides just being a band festival, a choir group performed too. (It’s nothing compared to our school’s “Choir” club okay! The pros have four lines – Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone. And how about Sri KL’s “Choir” club? Aiyah, as Calvin puts it: “I wouldn’t even call it a choir”, which is pretty much true because they’re all girls and they all seem to be altos ONLY. Where’s the darn variety?)
So anyway, I’m in the advanced/blue group, along with Siew Yee [trumpet], Heng Hau [trumpet], and Calvin [clarinet]. I was in the trombone section, and it so happened that I was the only one with a bass trombone. Oh, how I used to find the “uncommon” instruments so amusing…such as the bass clarinet and baritone sax. Didn’t spot any tall bassoons or coiling sousaphones this year.
A few flautists and a staff euphoniumist played Henry Mancini’s Baby Elephant Walk as an opening for the ceremony. Ivan, my trombone senior who is now studying in college, helped me to record a few of the performances. He didn’t manage to record the opening and the choir one, although I must point out that the choir group were so cool that when they left the stage row by row, they continued singing ’til even when they were already outside the auditorium. It’s a “Wahliaoeh!” factor. The junior group played Tribal Dance, Train Heading West and March of the Ladybugs. The advanced group played Barnum and Bailey’s Favourite, Portrait of a Clown, and Celebration For Winds and Percussions. Here are the videos:
Tribal Dance
Train Heading West
March of the Ladybugs

Iva, if you’re reading this, I envy you because you got to play The Incredibles back in ‘06

Jonathan strikes a “lan si” face
Heng Hau took this photo because he was camera-battling with Xi Ning
Going through some briefing
It’s the video man! He was talking to us and Heng Hau bravely snapped a photo of him, just like that.

Here, you can also spot Harry Potter
(Seriously, when I spotted that dude, HP came to my mind right away)
That was our lunch. You’re looking at McD’s that’s worth more than RM100!
Calvin again
Calvin said that I look like a goth here…
That’s what you get when there’s not enough light.
Le Clarinettis – Calvin, Celine, Yu Xin and Steffi
Steffi was wearing red because she didn’t want to play and claimed that “the red group is for experts”
Turns out that the red-shirted people are the instructors.
“Xi Ning looks like she’s waiting for her order” - Steffi
Steffi and I
Camera-battle again!
H²’s brother, James, who is turning 20 this year
And like I said [in a few posts back], he never “leaves” the band
He’s also a brilliant painter, really

Accidental sepet-ness
Yi Xin is a trumpeter and she doubles as a camera-shy trumpet holder
The yellow-coloured choir group! See, there’s plenty of guys here in this choir!
Sri KL’s leh? Not even one.
“TAKEN” says it all
This lady, Ms Lou Davey, was our conductor for the day. Dressed up in Chinese clothing.

Ryan: Calvin, how did you get there so fast?!
Calvin: Why, through osmosis, of course!

New Year, again? In the same month?
Happy Chinese New Year to those who celebrate this auspicious occasion!
Random shots taken at Mid Valley Megamall:
(note to self: Always shoot in raw format when there is enough space…)
On a random note…
one Franz Ferdinand’s third album is out today! Couldn’t find any copy though…*sigh* I’ll have to wait.
two Ever seen black nylon strings for the guitar? I bought one set of new strings just the other day and I found that there were three black strings in the pack. Yay?
Yes, I has an owrange room.
